Gwen Kandula, Au.D.
Board-Certified Doctor of Audiology
One of the most dynamic voices in audiology today, Dr. Gwen Kandula is respected for her passionate commitment to patients as well as for her cutting-edge work with the audiology industry. She focuses her care on continually expanding the range of patients she can help with today’s advanced hearing technologies.
Dr. Kandula knows from experience and research that hearing loss involves not only missing out on conversations and favorite sounds, but that it can also impair the ability to think and remember. Keeping that understanding in mind, she individually customizes solutions for restoring hearing to meet her patients’ work and lifestyle needs. At ADVENT, hearing care is an important component in helping patients maintain their overall vitality.
As one of the first Doctors of Audiology in Wisconsin, Dr. Kandula leads an audiology practice at ADVENT that is medically-based, as distinct from hearing aid services. Because some hearing problems can result from treatable medical conditions, patients at ADVENT benefit from a thorough medical evaluation first. Once medical issues are ruled out, Dr. Kandula can accurately diagnose the nature and extent of the hearing loss, and prescribe a fitting solution.
Dr. Kandula speaks extensively on hearing-related issues and consults regularly with hearing aid manufacturers on the latest innovations. Her knowledge of leading-edge technology enables her to offer patients the newest advancements, such as the most miniaturized hearing aids to date, and hearing aids that are compatible with smart phones. In recognition of her work, Dr. Kandula was named by the Milwaukee Business Journal as a “Woman of Influence” in the category of innovation.
Born and raised in Freedom, Wisconsin, Dr. Kandula received her Masters of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders. She then participated in a post-graduate audiology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma, where he met her husband-to-be, Madan. Following her fellowship, Dr. Kandula received her Masters of Business Administration degree. She then pursued further studies in audiology, graduating with a Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida in 2003.
Seeking to be closer to their families, Drs. Madan and Gwen Kandula started their careers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They founded Advanced Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists in 2004, and have grown it to be one of the largest independent ENT practices in the area, known for offering the most progressive thinking and options for treatment.
Dr. Kandula feels privileged to be a part of her patients’ lives and continuing to care for them as their hearing needs change over the years. “In treating hearing loss, we want to keep people from thinking they’re left out of things,” she says. “It’s not really about the device, but about finding a solution to make that hearing ‘muscle’ strong again.”
