Post-tonsillectomy pain management

Tonsillectomy is the second most common out-patient surgery in children under the age of 15. Pain is often the leading cause of dehydration in patients who have undergone tonsillectomy. Most individuals are familiar with Ibuprofen which has been around for over 50 years. It helps people worldwide manage their pain from head to toe. With a study last year finding Tylenol with codeine to potentially be detrimental to children after tonsillectomy, it is more important than ever to recognize the benefit of pain management with Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is found to be a very effective treatment option for pain after tonsillectomy. We recommend it for all of our tonsillectomy patients, both children and adults. – Ashley Laha, PA-C
